The President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalams 2 day visit to trivandrum started on 22/09/06. his excellency The president of India was received by dignitaries including Chief minister of kerala, Mr V S Achutanandan, Mayor Jayan Babu and Chief Secretary Mr John Mathai IAS at Trivandrum International airport.
His trivandrum program included a felicitation ceremony, where by he presented the newly constituted Sri chitra tirunal award in the name of Sri Chitra Tirunal, The Last ruler of Princely state of Travancore, to Mr. G Madhavan Nair, Ex- College of Mr APJ Abdul Kalam at ISRO.
In his Presidential address, president mentioned the contributions of The late Maharaja of Travancore in educational and Medical fields. He also discussed briefly the new Education Bill passed by parliament, that will ensure Free educational for all kids under the age of 14. He stressed on the necessity of education for the under privileged in the state and how the new edusat satelite system could be usefull in educating the populations in remote areas.
He visited Sri Chitra Instute of medical sciences and Shanti Giri Ashramam at Poothencode. He delivered a speech on the occassion of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical sciences. He also attended a brief student interaction program at the institute. At Shanti Giri Ashramam he had a discussion with Swamini Amritha GJnana Tapaswini. and had an interaction with Siddha and Ayurveda students of the Ashramam. He stayed at trivandrum at Raj Bhavan for the day and left for Tamil Nadu in the morning.
The president Delivered the 14th convocation address at the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University at Tirunelveli where he said Education should help individuals to build up research, creativity, technology, entrepreneurial and moral leadership. |
